Former Gordon Ramsay chef opens new Oxford Blue gastropub illuminated by Bright Goods LED filament lamps

Latest lighting technology recreates a historic atmosphere

LED Eco Lights today announced that its Bright Goods LED filament lamps have been installed throughout the newly refurbished and prestigious Oxford Blue gastropub, to create a traditional atmosphere with efficient lighting technology.

The Oxford Blue, located on the edge of Windsor Great Park in Berkshire is housed in two former game keeper’s cottages dating back to the 1800s and was acquired in 2015 by Steven Ellis, former chef at three-Michelin-starred Restaurant Gordon Ramsey.  After a lengthy refurbishment, the pub opened its doors on New Year’s Eve and boasts a 44-cover venue with a wine attic for private dining, a 14-seat lounge for drinks and a 16-cover outside dining area.

Josephine Bright Goods LED filament lamps on show at Blenheim Palace

An exhibition of works by Italian artist, Michelangelo Pistoletto, featuring Bright Goods ‘The Josephine’ LED filament lamps is on show at Blenheim Palace. Displayed in the China Ante Room inside the palace, the exhibit named ‘quadro di elettrici’ (painting of electric wires) features aesthetic, long linear wires hanging from a wall with Josephine LED filament light bulbs. The impressive exhibit measures 3 meters x 2 meters, creating a stunning centre piece with a perfectly, even glow at floor level.

LED – The brighter alternative to incandescent lighting

Saima Shafi, Co-Founder of LED lighting specialist LED Eco Lights, offers a view on why LED filament lamps offer many advantages over traditional incandescent light bulbs.

For almost 150 years, the incandescent light bulb has been shining bright to provide a reliable and effective means of illumination for millions of homes, hotels and businesses.  Originally invented in parallel by Sir Joseph Swan (UK) and Thomas Edison (USA) as the world’s first electric light bulb, it comprises a filament wire with an electric current running through it, which heats the wire to a high temperature until it glows, producing light or incandescence.

Mumford & Wood, the manufacturer of Britain’s finest timber windows and doors, was chosen as supply partner to replace over 1000 windows and doors as part of the major £200m restoration project at Trump Turnberry Resort.  This extensive refurbishment has included the remodelling and upgrade of all 103 bedrooms and public spaces within the existing hotel as well as the construction of a new, 500-person grand ballroom – the Donald J. Trump Ballroom – at this world-renowned golfing and leisure venue.

“Delivering Mr Trump’s vision to create the most luxurious hotel anywhere in the UK was a great challenge that we were delighted to accept,” says Jay Pengelly, managing director, Mumford & Wood Limited.  “The brief was to convert this building to its former glory and to once again provide opulent, high specification guest accommodation.  It is a great compliment to the Mumford & Wood brand and we are proud to have this project in our portfolio. Production started in October ’15 and we have delivered in phases to meet the build programme set by main contractor ISG.”

Exterior enhancements at the hotel included the replacement of all the windows with high-performance double glazed, timber Conservation™ windows; repairs to the roof and dormers and renewal of render to all elevations of the 109 year old building.  The new 6,000sq ft grand ballroom is an additional facility and has been designed to blend seamlessly with the original architecture of the hotel.

The specification of Conservation™ products includes top hung casements, many in a double and triple height configuration; large fixed sashes, including curved on plan; decorative curved header sliding sash windows; double and single French doorsets, as well as special bullseye shaped windows.

“We have surveyed every window and opening, many of which are very high and access is by cherry picker only; this was definitely not a one-size-fits-all contract,” says Owen Dare, technical director.  “The hotel has been closed for eight months and we have worked to a very tight build programme.  These products went through our production processes from October 2015 through to Spring 2016.  The success of this project relied on our specialist expertise in producing like-for-like replacements and having the capacity to deliver such a large and specialist contract to a consistently high standard.”

Factory finished, double glazed Conservation™ products are manufactured from premium quality engineered Siberian Larch which is both stable and durable.  Manufactured to the exacting standards of the British Woodworking Federation’s Wood Window Alliance scheme they are BRE A+ rated and offer the highest standards of thermal and acoustic performance and many are Secured by Design accredited.  These British-made products carry the BSI Kitemark and are Energy Saving Trust listed.  They will be delivered to site with three coats of high quality, spray-applied microporous paint in RAL 9010 as standard which will provide the ultimate protection in this exposed, coastal location.
