Many children have mountains of plastics toys, stacking up environmental problems for years to come. Sustainable wooden toys can last for generations and do not present a disposal problem.
Toys for boys yes, but these depictions of heritage vehicles are more than toys – they are genuine art as well as being highly unusual and rare home décor pieces. Handmade in our Wolverhampton workshop, each classic vehicle is individual. Over 24 models of classic cars, buses, coaches, tractors and lorries can be purchased straight away or commissioned to be specially manufactured for you.
At Maurice Studios www.woodentoycars.com we manufacture the classic racing cars in two basic shapes: the ‘Monaco Racing Car’ with a pointed bonnet and high rear end, while the ‘Le Mans’ elegantly curves from the bonnet through to the tail, imitating the early Bentleys and Bugatti open-cockpit racing cars – an evocative expression of those pre-war racing cars that used to whizz around the track at Monaco, Le Mans, La Sarthe and Goodwood during the 1930s.
We specialise in a superb oil & wax finish and have expertise in non-fading pigments for British Racing Green, French Racing Blue or Italian Racing Red and we use a secret blend of vinegars to ebonize our oak models to achieve a unique and environmentally friendly black finish.
Manufactured long and strong – each classic car is at least 300mm long and minimum 100mm from hub-to-hub with 15mm diameter axles. I made these for kids but found parents using them around the house for decoration.
The toy racing cars are generally made to order and can take 10-14 working days for the oil to dry between coats so please do allow sufficient time if you are selecting a sustainable wooden toy car for a birthday or Christmas gift.
